This policy explains how AfriConnect handles personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). AfriConnect is a WhatsApp Business communication platform operated by More Technology.

Information we collect
- Account details for the businesses that use AfriConnect, such as name, email address, phone number and role.
- Customer conversation data that our business clients process through their own WhatsApp Business number, including messages, contact numbers and any documents customers send.
- Client records that a business imports or captures, such as names, phone numbers and opt-in status.
- Technical information such as log data needed to keep the service secure and working.
How we use information
- To provide the platform: shared inbox, automated menus, routing, forms and template messaging.
- To deliver and track messages through the official WhatsApp Business Platform.
- To support, secure and improve the service.
- To meet our legal and contractual obligations.
Lawful basis and consent
We process personal information to perform our contract with each business, to meet legal obligations, and for our legitimate business interests. Outbound WhatsApp template messages are only sent to people who have opted in, and recipients can opt out at any time.
WhatsApp and Meta
AfriConnect is an independent integration platform and is not owned or operated by WhatsApp or Meta. Messages are delivered through the official WhatsApp Business Platform, and their handling is also subject to Meta's terms and privacy practices. WhatsApp is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.
Sharing your information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the platform, such as Meta for message delivery and our hosting and infrastructure providers, and only as far as needed to provide the service or comply with the law.
Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including access controls, encrypted credentials and signature-verified webhooks. Each business's data is kept separate from every other business on the platform.
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting and reporting requirements. Businesses can request deletion of their data, subject to any legal retention obligations.
Your rights under POPIA
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it.
- Ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate or no longer needed.
- Object to the processing of your personal information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
